Rights and Liberty, Independence and Self-government
Classic Yet Innovative
Meiji University was originally established as Meiji Law School by three young lawyers in 1881, back in the early years of Japan’s modern period. Since those days, Meiji has continued for almost 140 years as one of Japan’s leading private universities. But Meiji University does not simply bask in its traditions: it is an institution that is constantly in tune with the times and anticipates future developments.
Meiji University has set itself the following mission: advancing to the future by strengthening the position of the individual in the world and connecting with the world. In this way, Meiji aims constantly to lead the world by tackling new challenges and opening up a new era.
